Doreo Hosting Introduction

In 2008, Doreo Hosting was bought by CyberLynk, but the company’s web hosting plans are still available under the Doreo Hosting name. Customers can still sign up as before, but they’re encouraged to visit the Umbra Hosting website instead.

CyberLynk is an established internet services company, founded in 1995. Its offices are located in Franklin, WI and its data centre is situated in Milwaukee, WI in the US.

Doreo Hosting Plans

As Doreo Hosting is a legacy service, it only offers three shared hosting plans and three reseller hosting plans. From the features, I can deduce that the host only offers Linux hosting.

  • Shared hosting is provided via SH-A, SH-B and SH-c. The lowest cost SH-A plan limits customers to two domains, 50 mailboxes, 2,000 MB disk space and 60,000 MB bandwidth. The most expensive plan, SH-c, still has storage and bandwidth limits, but mailboxes, FTP accounts and databases are unlimited.
  • Resellers can choose RH-A, RH-B or RH-C. All of these plans are limited, and the amount of domains resellers can host is also restricted. Reseller plans are quite expensive – note that, unlike shared hosting, there’s no annual pricing structure, and the price at the bottom of its table is a quarterly fee. This is an unusual way to advertise pricing for reseller hosting. Resellers get access to both cPanel and WHM.

Customers have the option of converting their Doreo Hosting plan to a Umbra Hosting plan at any time.

Doreo Hosting Uptime/Downtime

Doreo Hosting publishes detailed historical uptime statistics. Users can check the downtime on each server in minutes and review the number of outages. Uptime statistics are archived back to June 2011.

Although CyberLynk’s uptime guarantee isn’t advertised on the Doreo Hosting website, it does exist in the company’s Terms of Service. Users receive a discretionary credit if uptime slips below 99.9%; claims must be made to the sales department via email within three working days of the incident. If uptime falls below 99%, a full refund of the month’s fees will be given. Between 99% and 99.9%, credits are calculated on a sliding scale.

Backups are taken daily using R1Soft; both backup and retrieval is a free service.

Doreo Hosting customers’ websites are hosted at CyberLynk’s Milwaukee data centre. The building has redundant power from generators and batteries, multiple fibre connections and round-the-clock support. The host owns the facility and provides colocation services. More information is available at MilwaulkeeColo.com.

Doreo Hosting Support

Doreo Hosting can access support 24/7 via CyberLynk’s helpdesk. Telephone support is offered via US local and toll-free numbers. Customers can also login to the customer support portal to open a new ticket.

Doreo Hosting customers can follow the Umbra Hosting Twitter feed, but it’s only used a couple of times a month. The same is true for its Google+ and Facebook pages. At the time of writing this review, Umbra Hosting only had 8 followers on Facebook which suggests that social networking isn’t a priority for the company.

Doreo Hosting in the News

As Doreo Hosting has effectively been swallowed up by a bigger company, it’s understandable that it hasn’t hit the headlines. I didn’t find any reference to the company on any major technology or news websites.

Doreo Hosting Control Panel

Doreo Hosting offers the latest release version of cPanel on all of its plans. Resellers are also provided with WHM.

Doreo Hosting Extras

Doreo Hosting’s packages are not described in any detail. As such, there are no free gifts on offer. It seems that CyberLynk prefers to redirect customers to Umbra Hosting, and the Doreo Hosting area of its website is not a priority for new customer signups.

Doreo Hosting Money Back Guarantee / Cancellation Policy

CyberLynk’s ToS provides a 30-day “unconditional” money-back guarantee; we can assume this also applies to Doreo Hosting customers, although it isn’t specifically mentioned on the website. If you wanted to test drive its hosting, it would be wise to check the terms first.

Doreo Hosting Summary

Doreo Hosting has been absorbed into a much bigger company, and there’s barely any information about its services on the website. Customers who are thinking of signing up should compare its packages to Umbra Hosting and opt for the one they feel is more suitable.

It’s very difficult to offer a critical review of Doreo Hosting given the lack of detail about its packages, although I did think that its reseller hosting was not competitively priced. Unless you have a particular reason for choosing Doreo Hosting, such as an existing relationship with the company, Umbra Hosting’s products are almost certainly a better option.
